Key Successes

Our key successes in 2018/19:

•‘Golden engagement thread’ continues between the consulting room and the House of Commons

•LMC representation on the national General Practitioners Committee remains strong – providing a link to the Government to influence contractual negotiations and improvements

•Expertise, input and robust challenge around the local Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) process continues

•Key influencing role on committees reshaping local healthcare eg the Primary Care Committee

•Facilitative and leading role in establishing local Primary Care Networks (PCNs)

•Facilitation, influencing and brokering role to help address the crisis in general practice in Plymouth and other areas of Devon

•Negotiations – resolution of core hours issue, better relationships with local providers including the RD&E and Derriford

•Greater recognition of intermediate care by local commissioners and the need to work collaboratively to close ‘black-hole’ of unpaid work falling to GPs

•Provided practice support to a number of vulnerable local GP practices and individual GPs/Practice Managers around issues such as workforce, finances, mergers and CQC inspections

•Provided pastoral support with a continuing year-on-year increased caseload

•Enhanced communications – including launching a new weekly operational bulletin and new social media channels

•Hosted several events including the regional GPC Roadshow on the new GP contract and the forthcoming PCN Clinical Directors event and launched a series of Induction to General Practice workshops for new doctors, practice managers and nurses

•Closer engagement with local medical schools and attendance at regional GP job fairs

•Future proofing the LMC – including succession planning of the back-office function eg a new Director of Operations and expansion of core services

•Prudent management of LMC resources and finances.
