Guest Speaker

Yvette Parker (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Consultant) gave a very interesting and informative talk about the biological and environmental influences on mental health in adolescence. How the effect of IQ, language development, attachment, peer relationships and physical difficulties affected mental health. She also outlined how stretched services are for adolescents in Exeter.

                       

Venue: Everyone seemed happy with the new venue (the Clarence Room) but there was some difficulty in hearing the speaker clearly and this will be addressed. If there are any other concerns or suggestions please feel free to let the committee know.

 

Future dates and events to note:

  1. The ESGPG conference is to be held on the 30th March and is being organised by Vik Mohan. This is open to all sessional GPs at no charge and invitations will be sent out shortly.
  2. Rolle Medical Practice in Exmouth are looking for a locum to cover for a sabbatical in July 06.

 

Committee elections:

Both Drs Vik Mohan (chairman) and Peter Kennerley (LMC representative) have now stepped down from the committee. Elections were held after the meeting and the following members were elected:

 

1.      Liam Kinsella (Chairman)

2.      Di Baker (Secretary)

3.      Pru Mitchell (Treasurer)

4.      Charlie Playfair (Assistant secretary)

5.      Jo Fearon (Social secretary)

 

Future ESGPG Meetings               

7th March - Complementary Medicine (Professor Ernst)

4th April – Adult Psychiatry (Dr Gupta)

    

Meeting time

Please note that the meetings are now scheduled to start at 7.00pm and food arrives at 7.15pm with the guest speaker planned to commence at 7.45pm. The above meetings will all be held at the Royal Clarence Hotel

 

 

Thank-you to outgoing Chairman

Peter Kennerley thanked Vik Mohan for his work as Chairman of the ESGPG Group over the past 4 years. His knowledge of local groups and information and his behind the scenes work has been incalculable. Vik was instrumental in maintaining ties with local organizations and in arranging funding for the ESGPG. He also chaired and facilitated the Tuesday evening meetings. 

 

We hope Vik maintains active links with the group in the future.
